Our research focuses on the structure and function of the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria with three main objectives:
1) decipher the assembly and structural variations of the cell wall glycopolymers including peptidoglycan, polysaccharides and teichoic acids
2) identify the mechanisms regulating the equilibrium between cell wall synthesis and degradation
3) elucidate the role of cell wall glycopolymers and their structural variations during bacterial cell cycle and in bacterial interactions with infecting bacteriophages or host cells
Our bacterial models are beneficial Gram-positive bacteria, lactic acid bacteria used in food fermentations (mainly lactococci), or commensal bacteria of the gut microbiota (lactobacilli, Faecalibacterium) with positive health effects on their host.
