PRESENTATION :
The concept of flexible radio plays a central role in future mobile communication systems. It will enable to dynamically reconfigure on a software basis wireless systems while at the same time making an optimum use of the different heterogeneous standards (for example WiMAX and 3G LTE) within the same device (base station for example). The scientific challenges are important and touch upon every layer of the telecommunication stack. It is in order to develop tomorrow's innovative wireless systems, adapted to dynamic and heterogeneous environments, that Alcatel-Lucent and Supélec have established this teaching and research chair.
ACTIVITIES/OBJECTIVES :
In order to develop tomorrow's innovative wireless systems, adapted to dynamic and heterogeneous environments, Alcatel-Lucent and Supélec have established this teaching and research chair which should :
- develop in France the required skills for next generation's wireless communication systems ;
- anticipate standardization trends ;
- encourage entrepreneurial start-up's on the "plateau de Saclay" in the field of mobile telecommunications ;
- encourage new technologies that could structure investments for mobile operators in the next five years.
The chair holder is Mérouane Debbah.
RESEARCH THEMES :
- Cognitive Radio, Resource Allocation, Game theory ;
- Random Matrix Theory, Free Probability Theory ;
- Statistical Inference, Maximum Entropy principles, Modelling ;
- OFDM, MIMO, ad-hoc networks ;
- Physical Layer security.
