The Joint Research Unit on Herbivores conducts research for multi-performance breeding systems mobilizing the levers of agroecology. The unit has developed strong expertise in methane emissions, animal welfare, food value, and the quality of meats and dairy products. We mobilize our skills to study: 1- The efficiency of animals and farms, 2- The construction, evaluation and prediction of the sensory and nutritional qualities of products, 3- The adaptive capacity and robustness of animals and 4- Environmental impacts and services due to livestock. We combine experiments on animals (mainly cattle and sheep), the use of databases (in particular for integrative biology or meta-analyzes), modeling (of a biological function, of a system of breeding, evaluation), system-wide experiments or the monitoring of commercial farms (organic or conventional agriculture)..
