Efficacité des procédés rustiques vis-à-vis des composés azotés

Abstract : "Rustic" wastewater treatment systems are well adapted for rural communities because their operation is simple and not time consuming. Alternatives to Waste Stabilization Ponds (WSP), which conform to the same criteria are systems which can be classified as attached growth cultures on fine media type. They are always designed for a low organic load per unit surface area and most of the time they consist of at least 2 filter media units alternately fed and put in resting for the same duration of time. In normal functioning, they are able to nitrify most of the reduced nitrogen compounds. Ammonia and nitrates outlet concentrations can be considered as an excellent indicator of the « good health » of the filters.
