              <p>Finite element analysis of the performance of rockfill dams requires correct simulation of volume reduction which occurs when partly saturated fill material becomes saturated. This factor can be important during impounding. This paper introduces basis of a simple model, able to describe the phenomenon of collapse with a single material property set. This hydro-plastic model is applied to reproduce some published experimental results involving loading and water saturation changes. The model is then applied to the construction and impounding phases of El Infiernillo dam (Mexico) in a single analysis, with a fully coupled finite element method.</p>

              <p>Les calculs par la méthode des éléments finis des barrages en enrochement nécessitent de rendre compte de la contractance qui apparaît lorsque les enrochements secs se saturent. Ce phénomène peut être majeur durant le premier remplissage. Cette communication pose les bases d'un modèle hydroplastic simple, capable de reproduire les essais publiés dans la littérature, y compris la saturation. Ce modèle est appliqué à la construction et au remplissage du barrage d'El Infiernillo avec un calcul par éléments finis couplé hydromécanique.</p>
