Generative propagation (Final report Task 4.1.)

Abstract : This final report synthesises the results obtained in the " Towards a European larch wood chain " European project devoted to larch (1-07-1998 / 30-09-2002) in the task "production of improved varieties through generative way" coordinated by Cemagref and including 4 organizations from France (Cemagref, Inra), Ireland (Coillte) and Germany (NFV). Progress has been made in the 3 fields studied namely flower stimulation, pollen management and artificial pollination, seed technology. - Flower stimulation: improvement of girdling, gibberellin 4/7 injection and root-pruning and study of the influence of rootstocks and environmental conditions on flowering. - Pollen and pollination: development of methods in pollen drying, pollen testing and gathering of technical / economic data in the course of a pilot seed production of hybrid larch. - Seed technology: determination of optimal cone collection period and improvement in seed extraction, seed sorting and seed germination.
