Biodiversité et gestion forestière Connaître pour préserver. Synthèse bibliographique

Abstract : What is biodiversity ? How can we quantify it ? Why should we protect it, especially within forest areas ? The first part of this book is a state-of-knowledge overview of these questions, which clarifies the issues and provides useful tools to answer one main question : what are the effects of forest management practices on biodiversity ? In the second part of this book, eight headings deal with this question with special emphasis on interspecific diversity and on community ecology of flora, insects and birds. In addition to the state-of-knowledge review, we provide scientists and managers with food for thought about their studies and management practices to help them better work together for the protection of biodiversity and to identify the main points to be investigated. This will be of interest to forest managers, scientists, teachers and students, and more generally, all those involved in the management of our natural areas.
