Efficiency of tree direct seeding in afforestation: the role of microclimate and resources availability induced by vegetation composition

Efficacité du semis direct en plantation forestière : rôle du microclimat et de la disponibilité en ressources induits par la composition de la végétation

Résumé

In order to assess the efficiency of direct seeding in afforestation of previous agricultural lands, we conducted an experiment testing two main factors: tree species and surrounding vegetation composition (cover plants). Three seed mixtures were prepared corresponding to tree species of 3 succession stages after field abandonment. Tree emergence and growth, vegetation composition time-course, soil water content, soil and air temperatures and transmitted light were recorded all along the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
