Etude expérimentale d'une couche de mélange anisotherme

Abstract : A non-isothermal plane mixing-layer has been studied in several conditions as regard the velocity and temperature gradients imposed as inlet conditions. The flow was generated in a wind-tunnel specifically designed to study the mixing of low velocity parallel streams adjusted separately in velocity and temperature. A novel technique, based on a Parameterizable Constant Temperature Anemometer (PCTA), was used to measure simultaneously the velocity and the temperature at a single point at high frequencies. The transverse profiles obtained at different positions along the streamwise direction giving access to the expansion parameters of the mixing-layer, the expansion rates of the vorticity thickness and thermal mixing thickness were compared in relation with the coefficient , related to the shear stress, and the Richardson number. The ability of the PCTA to deliver simultaneous measurements at high frequency will enable, in future works, a finer analysis of velocity-temperature interactions in the turbulent mixing process.
