Urban diffuse stormwater discharges from both separate and combined sewers contribute significantly to the contamination of water bodies by numerous pollutants, including the 33 priority pollutants listed in the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). Whereas concentrations and loads of traditional pollutants (suspended solids, COD, nutrients ) in stormwater discharges are well documented since three decades, less information is available on the presence, the pathways, the concentrations and the loads of priority pollutants in these effluents. This paper presents some of the results of the ESPRIT collaborative research project (2007-2010) which aimed to evaluate concentrations and loads of 41 priority pollutants transported in urban stormwater in two catchments. Great variabilities in fluxes and loads were observed. Simple models were developed to predict event loads. They will allow planning a suitable management and treatment of the stormwater priority pollutants.
