Spatial distribution of leaf breakdown in two french mediterranean lakes

Scientific knowledge on leaf processing in lake is poor, while such understanding is necessary to deliver indicators of lake ecosystem integrity. Lakes are hierarchically organized and controlled by hydromorphological and chemical gradients. Thus, a strong spatial variability in leaf processing is expected. We aimed to examine such spatial pattern in leaf breakdown in lakes and to disentangle abiotic and biotic mechanisms involved.
