Evaluation des vergers à graines français de douglas : résultats des tests à 5 ans

Abstract : A network of trials has been created by Irstea, INRA, ONF and CNPF to assess the performance of progenies collected from the 8 French Douglas-fir seed orchards. Initiated in 2008, the network is composed of 40 trials established in contrasting environments (climate, soil). The results obtained in 24 sites 5 years after planting do not show significant differences for survival. On the contrary, height growth is more variable. Globally, Californie seed orchard has lower annual height increments than the control from the natural range (Washington State, USA), that proves to be less vigorous than the 7 other orchards. In addition, it is worth noticing alteration in provenance ranking according to the type of environment. Growth difference between Californie and the other provenances drastically decreases when the environment becomes warm and dry.
