La transformation du contexte économique du secteur laitier

Abstract : This article presents the main changes in French dairy sector since the implementation of milk quotas in 1984. Since then, national milk production has dropped by 15% and the number of farms has fallen by just over four. However, France remains the second largest European producer of milk and the seventh in the world. Prior to the abolition of milk quotas in 2015, measures taken under the Health Check of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will help strengthen direct aids to extensive grazing systems; the milk quota will rise by 1% per year. After 2015, the regulation of milk supply will then take place through contracts between producers and processors. They will have an important influence on the technical development and the restructuration of dairy farms.
