Use tree belts to soak up excess run-off
Résumé
Tree belts can capture significant amounts of storm run-off and suspended sediment. The captured run-off can increase water supply to the tree belt, which could reduce waterlogging and salinity problems downslope. Non-grazed tree belts with good soil structure and tree litter can extract large amounts of suspended sediment from storm run-off. Whether tree belts are suited to a farm will depend on the location and type of enterprise.
