Interactions between grassland management and species diversity

Abstract : This chapter discusses the influence of grassland management systems on grassland vegetation dynamics and its biodiversity, with an important discussion about antagonisms between grassland intensification and species diversity or the possibilities for restoring biodiversity. Factors such as scale and abiotic heterogeneity of a site and the size of herbivore or mixture of herbivores that are used will affect biodiversity are covered. The benefits and threats of reducing grazing intensity are also discussed. Finally, grazing and the conservation of faunal diversity in grasslands are explored.
