Le marché des engrais, la volatilité des prix et la dépendance de l’agriculture européenne.

Abstract : Mineral fertilizers are now essential agricultural inputs. By improving soil nutrient availability, they play a key role in agricultural production and access to food for a growing population. This report focuses on the challenges of this sector for the European Union (EU), strongly deficit area for these resources. It is divided into five parts. The first presents and analyzes the role of mineral fertilizers in global agricultural production and its interactions with the issue of food security. The second focuses on the current and future availability of resources fertilizers worldwide by distinguishing successively nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The third discusses forms of dependence on the European market for fertilizers. The fourth analyzes the factors explaining the high volatility of fertilizer prices internationally, by analyzing the supply and demand evolution. The fifth deals with the dependence of European farms (depending on the type of production and regions) to fertilizers.
