Forêts et changement climatique : Le constat en région méditerranéenne
Résumé
The Mediterranean region is particularly affected by climate change for two reasons. On the one hand, climate change in the Mediterranean region is faster than the global average, and this trend is expected to increase in the future. On the other hand, the combination of a marked drought with the hottest season is the main component defining the Mediterranean climate. It already constitutes the greatest constraint for vegetation. Although this vegetation is adapted to it, at least in the conditions of the past, the current changes are likely to aggravate it beyond the known resistance of the plants. In this article, the author takes stock of the current changes and their impacts on trees and, beyond that, on the entire forest ecosystem.
La région méditerranéenne est particulièrement concernée par le changement climatique pour deux raisons. D’une part, ce changement y est plus rapide que la moyenne mondiale, et cette tendance devrait s’accentuer dans le futur. D’autre part, la combinaison d’une sécheresse marquée avec la saison la plus chaude est la principale composante définissant le climat méditerranéen. Elle constitue déjà la plus grande contrainte pour la végétation. Bien que cette végétation y soit adaptée, du moins dans les conditions du passé, les changements en cours risquent de l’aggraver au-delà de la résistance connue des plantes. Dans cet article, l’auteur fait le point des changements en cours et de leurs impacts sur les arbres, et au-delà sur tout l’écosystème forestier.
