AGRIBIRDS - Concevoir et diffuser des indicateurs « Oiseaux » pour les acteurs du monde agricole.

Abstract : The aim of the AgriBirds project was to provide resources to help agricultural stakeholders to run bird surveys in response to questions they have about their territories, practices and landscapes. A first step in identifying a set of agricultural issues for which birds could be mobilized as agroecological indicators was identified with project partners and farmers. Several methods of bird survey have been tested jointly by farmers and ornithologists, in about thirty farms. These tests made it possible to evaluate the ability of a non-ornithologist to make these follow-ups, the loss of information in relation to an expert and the learning capacity of the farmer. The project has shown that a major difficulty in the implementation of bird surveys by non-specialist agricultural actors is the ability to recognize bird species, particularly by songs. This difficulty can however be partially overcome by focusing on a small number of easily recognizable species. Despite this difficulty, the vast majority of farmer testers have a positive assessment of the system put in place. Feedback from participants showed that bird as a monitoring indicator has been refined over the course of the project. These changes were mainly associated with the rich interactions between farmers, ornithologists and animators of the device during the test phases. The feedbacks on the methods tested and the numerous documents developed during this project have been gathered in a website developed with the project partners (
