Premiers retours d'expérience sur les dispositifs agroforestiers intégrés dans le système laitier expérimental OasYs

Abstract : In 2014, an experimental facility was established by FERLUS, the INRAE experimental research unit located in Lusignan. There, scientists have been studying the effects of implementing different agroforestry approaches within mixed crop-dairy systems. The facility has four agroforestry plots (12 ha each) with alley cropping; three arboreta (with pollards, willows, and lianas); one tree grove; and a small woodland. It is home to more than 70 species of trees, shrubs, and lianas. This article describes the facility's design and functioning, as well as the practical results to which it has given rise regarding methods for protecting woody plants from wildlife and cattle and the work load associated with different agroforestry approaches. We also discuss our impressions regarding the initial benefits provided by agroforestry as well as the feedback received from visitors. Finally, we provide a summary of potential future research questions.
