A newly identified protein from Akkermansia muciniphila stimulates GLP-1 secretion

Abstract : Akkermansia muciniphila is a gut commensal known to improve host metabolism. The outer membrane protein Amuc_1100 has been shown to partially replicate these beneficial effects. Here, Yoon et al. (2021) have identified a novel protein (P9) secreted by A. muciniphila that stimulates GLP-1 secretion, thereby adding new insight to the biomolecule era to treat metabolic diseases.
