Design of alley cropping systems: competitive interactions and crop yields
El diseño de sistemas agroforestales de cultivos intercalados templados: Interacciones competitivas y rendimiento de los cultivos
Résumé
Abstract
This work corresponds to a bibliographic analysis of the research carried out on the design of agroforestry systems (AFS) in temperate zones. A bibliographic search with the help of ISI Web of Science, allowed to establish a very low number of studies related to this research topic. Such investigations were carried out in experimental stations and showed how, in different types of design, interspecific competition between trees and intercrops affected some of the ecosystemic functions of AFS. Finally, a proposal was made for possible changes in the type of research (i.e. articulation with agroforestry plots) and for some key points in the design of AFS with the intention of an evolution of the competitive interactions towards complementary interactions.

Resumen :
Este trabajo corresponde a un análisis bibliográfico de las investigaciones realizadas sobre el diseño de sistemas agroforestales (SAF) en zonas templadas. Una búsqueda bibliográfica con ayuda de ISI Web of Science, permitió establecer un número muy bajo de estudios referentes a este tema de investigación. Dichas investigaciones fueron realizadas en estaciones experimentales y mostraron como en diferentes tipos de diseño, la competencia interespecífica entre arboles y cultivos intercalados afectaban algunas funciones ecosistémicas de los SAF. Por ultimo, se desarrollo una propuesta de cambios posibles en el tipo de investigación (i.e. articulación con los predios agroforestales) y para algunos puntos clave en el diseño de SAF con la intención de una evolución de las interacciones competitivas hacia interacciones de complementariedad.
