Modeling eco-evolutionary dynamics

Résumé

This lecture is part of the module "Demo-genetics in a Changing Environment" for M1 students in the Master Green EEAE (Evolutionary Ecology in Aquatic Environments) program at UPPA. The lecture focuses on the use of individual-based simulation models to study eco-evolutionary dynamics. The first part, based on the synthesis paper by Lamarins et al. (2022), (1) defines Demo-Genetic Agent-Based Models (DG-ABMs) and (2) illustrates, through a review of studies employing DG-ABMs, how these models are particularly relevant for exploring fundamental, yet pressing, questions in evolutionary ecology across various levels of organization. Next, the lecture details two studies using DG-ABMs: (1) the PhD thesis of Amaia Lamarins, titled "Adaptation, Persistence, and Management of Atlantic Salmon in a Metapopulation Context"; and (2) the PhD thesis of Victor Fririon, titled "Vulnerability of Forests in the Face of Climate Change: DG-ABMs to Investigate Adaptive Management Strategies in Cedar and Douglas Stands."
