De fils en images l'apport des modèles pour mesurer et reconstruire le mouvement des écoulements turbulents

Abstract : This manuscript presents a synthesis of my research activities since I have been recruited at Irstea. It outlines fifteen years of work to catch the dynamics of turbulent flows by combining metrology, simulations and advanced signal processing methodologies. The first chapter presents, the research and the methodological developments to discriminate the most energetic structures from PIV and DNS fields into non-canonical turbulent flows that can be found in air conditioning. In a second chapter a hot-wire anemometry technique giving simultaneous velocity and temperature measurements is presented. The third chapter details how the optical flow paradigm can be exploited to fluid flow measurements instead of correlation techniques classically used in PIV. To estimate the motion vector fields from image sequences, the different classes of problems to be solved are explained. The last chapter exhibits the potentiel given by image data assimilation for the development of the future measurement and simulation techniques. To progressively reconstruct 3D realistic turbulent flows, two first applications are presented and perspectives are proposed.
