, given in table 2 for DRM, DM and SM. The reference SM dispersal curve showed a short median distance of dispersal (Mdd) of 7 m. Shape parameter p equaled 1 and seed dispersal followed a Gaussian distribution
, Comparing DRM with DM, we observed that the shape parameter p was systematically greater for the dispersal curve computed using DRM than DM, for all three cohorts
, Mdd was equal to 16.4, 13.2 and 19.6 m for cohorts 1, 2, 3 respectively, whereas it was equal to 27.7, 18 and more than 150 m in the case of DM (figure 3). Overall, Mdd values for the seed dispersal SM model were closer to DRM than to DM. Moreover, DM showed fatter tailed dispersal curves than DRM. 95 % of seeds were dispersed within a radius of 30 m (from theseed tree) in the SM model (table 2), whereas 89.4, 95.1 and 66.6% were in DRM, and only 56.9, 81 and 15% in DM, for cohorts 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The trend was the same for a radius of 100 m (cf table 2 for values), DRM, 2007.
, On Mont Ventoux, our own unpublished data show an almost perfect correlation between elevation and temperature (r² = 0.99) which decreases approximately 0.7°C per 100 m of elevation. The relation between elevation and both precipitation and atmospheric humidity is less clear
At high elevation, the limiting factor is more probably frost. Late frost at high elevation induces the death of young seedlings, hence limiting silver fir installation. Seed rain has a significant positive impact on seedling density. The currently expanding silver fir forest of Mont Ventoux results from scattered seed trees and seed rain is a limiting factor for seedling recruitment, 1998. ,
