Systèmes de traitement des eaux usées par cultures fixées sur supports grossiers : lits bactériens conventionnels et préfabriqués monoblocs, disques biologiques

Abstract : Bacterial beds : in the first report on the state of equipment in the field of wastewater treatment in France (1992/93 data), on a total of 11,310 stations of more than 200 registered Equivalent Inhabitants (EI), there are less than 1500 bacterial, which does not represent more than 6.1% of the total treatment capability installed on the territory. Bacterial beds are nevertheless the oldest treatment process used, but this technique has not gone through technical evolutions similar to those of activated sludge. If, today, constructors have practically no more weak load beds in their catalogue, numerous disparities persist in the usual sizing bases of the European Union countries, especially with respect to the types of fitting (rock or plastic) and to the types of treatment (according to the nitrification level looked for). This article quickly presents various types of bacterial beds used in France, and their usual sizing parameters. It also synthesizes the results obtained on real or pilot sites in the framework of a European study project on bacterial beds led by the Cemagref in Bordeaux, and summarizes the most important design criteria. Biological disks: being less and less used during the years 1970/80, partly because of numerous mechanical failures and a chronic undersizing, this process could again be of interest.
