Pour une gestion forestière favorisant la diversité des coléoptères saproxyliques

Abstract : Saproxylic beetles play a crucial functional role in recycling organic matter, in pollinating plants and in participating in trophic networks. This paper aims at briefly reminding their main ecological traits, at synthesizing the main knowledge on the key habitat factors at both the stand and landscape scales, and at formulating practical recommendations to better take saproxylic beetles into account in forest management. The main key habitat factors are: • large volume of diversified deadwood, density of living trees bearing certain microhabitats, stand openness at the stand scale; • permanent set-aside forest areas at the landscape scale. Threshold values may be converted into quantitative targets by forest managers.
