Evaluation d’un collier accéléromètre pour la détection automatisée des chaleurs induites par traitement hormonal chez des chèvres Alpines désaisonnées et en bâtiment

Abstract : We assessed the accuracy of automated activity monitoring collars (Heatime®, heat detection device initially developed in cattle) for heat detection in goats. The device was assessed in goats bred out-of-season after a photoperiodic treatment. After hormonal induction and synchronization of oestrus, activity data recorded in 40 Alpine does by Heatime® were compared to their hormonal profiles. Two activity thresholds were assessed: 85% and 62% (efficiency) synchronized heats were detected with an accuracy of 92 % and 100 % respectively for the lower and higher thresholds. After artificial insemination (AI), only 31% and 8% of return to heat were detected with an accuracy of 80% and 100 % respectively for the lower and higher thresholds. Continuous behavior observations (video) on 10 goats confirmed heats and helped refine the alert threshold. For synchronized heats, when using the lower threshold, accuracy can be improved from 92% to 100% by taking into account the number of alerts (≥2) while maintaining the same efficiency (85%). Thus the device proved its effectiveness in detecting heats induced by hormonal treatment. But detection of return to heat was weak. Further adjustments of using conditions are required to allow the use of the device for detecting heats induced by the male effect, which are less synchronous, in order to help planning AI.
