Turbulente plane mixing layer perturbed by the wake of a circular cylinder

Abstract : In this study we analyze experimentally the turbulent field downstream of a cylinder placed perpendicular to the splitting plate of a turbulent plane mixing layer. The highly 3D feature of the flow, in studied through a detailed analysis of the Reynolds stress. In the near wake, the mixing layer characteristics are strongly affected by the wake. As the flow evolves, the mixing layer recovers gradually its own characteristics. These modifications are limited with a complexe spectral behaviour. Inded, the characteristics frequencies of the wakes and the mixing layer are quite different.
