Estimation de la mortalité des civelles de la Gironde après leur passage dans le circuit de refroidissement de la Centrale nucléaire du Blayais

Abstract : For many years, the Cemagref' biologists watch over the faunal populations in the Gironde estuary, especially near the nuclear power plant of Blayais. The samples and observations, regularly done in this estuary, have allowed to estimate the density of glass eels drew into the cooling system without any information on the healthy state of the glass eels after leaving the cooling system. The aim of the experiments conducted in laboratory have end at the selection of some dies to mark eel-glass, without increasing their mortality rate. Near 600 marked glass eel were caught in the estuary by the Cemagref's biological vessel.Then it was possible to estimate the mortality rates for the glass eels drew in the cooling system ; the average immediate mortality rate is 9 % and 15 % after one week. The catch of the coloured glass eels shows a possible modification of their behaviour, by the dye used. It shows also the complexity of the movements of this species before reaching their growing areas.
