Impact of 2003 scorching heat on a Scots pine forest in the French Mediterranean area
Impact de la canicule 2003 sur le pin sylvestre en région méditerranéenne française
Résumé
Climate change with exceptional climatic events is becoming a major issue. In the present study, we focused on the largest Scots pine forest situated near Marseille (France), on the North side of the Sainte-Baume mountain range. We present some results of a study aiming at assessing the impact of the exceptional drought and heat wave of 2003 on health status and the growth of Scots pine. Using dendrochronological methods, we assessed the influence of temperature and precipitation on tree growth.
La canicule de 2003 a provoqué une forte réduction de la croissance du pin sylvestre dans la zone méditerranéenne française pendant plusieurs années consécutives. Elle a aussi eu des conséquences sur l'état sanitaire des arbres et la taille des aiguilles.
