Résumé
Chapter 4 is intended to be the reference document of choice for operating, trouble-shooting and maintaining levees. It is written for levee operators with a range of experience and expertise as well as for environmental agencies who are interested in international good practice. Chapter 4 includes historical good practice, facts regarding good practice (explicitly stating limitations) and technical information. This should be considered an introductory document to lead the reader to additional materials that contain detailed instructions on how to operate and maintain a levee. Chapter 4 is not meant to replace any existing operations and maintenance manuals nor supersede any existing laws (such as those regarding levee operation and maintenance or environmental management).
