Estimation des conditions de référence et seuils de qualité pour le paramètre « température de l'eau » en plans d'eau

Abstract : Water temperature is one of the most important parameters for the organization of lentic aquatic ecosystems. It is also defined as one of the parameters supporting biology in the European Water Framework Directive. Water temperature is also a decisive parameter for water quality because temperature is a parameter that controls chemical reactions and both mass and energy exchanges in water bodies and at the mixing areas receiving inflows from watersheds. Consequently, the effects of anthropic physicochemical pressures from watersheds on lentic water bodies are partly controlled by the temperatures of the two water bodies, the water mass and streams. In parallel, temperature is in turn modified by a change in water quality. Indeed, the quality of water is determinant for its transparency, and the latter influences the vertical distribution of the solar radiation energy absorbed by the water body through the surface. The response of a lake to meteorological and climatic conditions is therefore partly dependent on the conditions of transparency and therefore the water quality. This report presents the results of a research project on a DCE water temperature indicator in order to link the quality thresholds of the transparency parameter (Danis & Roubeix, 2014) to study the effect of water quality on water temperature. For this, the GLM (General Lake Model) mechanistic model has been used to simulate the temperature of water under transparency conditions corresponding to different levels of quality. And these simulations might be used to calculate the threshold values for the water temperature parameter. Furthermore, in situ data were used to analyse the recent thermal behaviour of French water bodies. The analysis showed an influence of the morphometry of the water bodies, in particular their depth, on their thermal behaviour. In particular, the study has shown that the depth of water bodies conditions the effect of changes in transparency on thermal behaviour.
