Les métiers d’agent de développement agricole en débat : comment accompagner des agriculteurs qui changent leur façon de cultiver en grandes cultures ?

Abstract : In the trend of the “Grenelle de l’Environnement”, French agricultural advisors or facilitators ought to support farmers involved in a process of practices change or in an innovation process. To enable them and their managers in developing new ways of performing this job, a new interpretation of advisory relationship and change facilitation process is presented in this paper. It results from exchanges amongst advisors or facilitators and researchers, based on professionals own experiences and on some analyses of their activity conducted by researchers. A key notion in the interpretative framework is the one of “format”. Some formats can be institutionalized (le tour de plaine “à chaud”, training withcontribution of an expert), some are being institutionalized (le tour de plaine « à froid », co-construction of a cropping system), and their combination for facilitating a change process are experienced (to facilitate changes in a water catchment, to facilitate changes towards a standard such as “Grandes Cultures Economes”). We also present some tools which aim at analysing disruptions emerging in new facilitation situations and at supporting advisors or facilitators in recovering efficiency when performing new facilitation formats.
