Abstract

The agronomic interest of the agricultural use of sewage sludge is counterbalanced by its toxic chemical content. The analysis of the litterature evidences that a risk for consummers does exist for biocumulative chemical; heavy metals transfer to various plants (crops, vegetables, potatoes, fruits) and to meat and animal fat; the biocumulative organic compounds (PCB, PCDD, PCDF) transfer to meat an dairy products. The management of this human risk should be based on applying the regulation, in order to limit the food chain contamination, preventing the contamination of sewage sludge upstream, and monitoring the human risk downstream, on the long run
