Different reproductive parameters were evaluated in four genetically pure caprine herds under commercial conditions in the province of Havana during the 1992-1995 period. During the study, climatic indicators were in accordance with the historical averages of that region. Nubia, Toggenburg and Alpina breeds showed differences in their indicators under similar conditions of stocking rate (intensive grazing system), supplementation policy and technological discipline. Peaks were obtained in seasons of estrus manifestation and parturition, except in Toggenburg, as well as an average of 0,98 parturitions/goat/year, with the best results in Saanen and Toggenburg (1,07 and 1,06, respectively). Regarding prolificacy, Nubia breed (1,45 kids/parturition) and Toggenburg breed (1,5 kids/parturition) showed the best results. Parturition intervals of 341 and 344 days for Saanen and Toggenburg, respectively, showed the possibilities of these genotypes for having more than one parturition per year under tropical conditions. Toggenburg showed the best kid survival rate (29,24 %), regarding the kids born alive. Toggenburg breed was concluded to have the best performance concerning reproductive indicators, although new studies should be carried out in specific edafoclimatic zones of the island where the development of goat breeding is of great interest.
