Intérêt du débroussaillement pour la sécurité des constructions et des personnels de secours Evaluation par un modèle de simulation d'incendie De quoi s'agit-il ?

Abstract : The Legal Obligations for Clearing Undergrowth (OLD in French) require the owner of any building located within a zone declared as exposed to the risk of wildfire, to maintain within a radius of 50 metres of the construction a distance between trees as well as clear away bushes and dead wood. The implementation of this measure is not without drawbacks for an owner insofar as it implies regularly dealing with renewed vegetation which may well grow beyond the limits of the holding. Over and above limiting the risk of fires flaring up, these measures have two objectives: i) they enable firefighters to intervene close to buildings without incurring danger; ii) they help protect people and possessions even in the absence of firefighters. The OLD, by reducing the degree of thermal impact on buildings and making it easier to remain close to them, facilitates the protection of people confined inside and reduces the likelihood of indirect combustion. In this article, we present the numerical simulations of thermal impact caused by the arrival of a reference fire at a residence/forest interface as a function of the breadth of the brush-free swathe in order to discuss the effects of the OLD. The results obtained argue in favour of the current regulations.
