Évaluer numériquement les impacts du changement climatique au sein d’un bassin viticole pour co-construire des stratégies d’adaptation

Abstract : Climate change issues are often presented at a global scale, whereas adaptation requires a knowledge on their impacts at a local scale. This article proposes an original approach that combines modelling and participatory approaches in a Mediterranean winegrowing watershed. Our objectives are to (i) use climate projections with stakeholders, (ii) quantify the impacts of climate change according to the different production systems, and (iii) initiate discussions on the adaptations to be implemented. Our methodological framework follows a three steps scheme: conceptualization, model testing, and model simulations of different climate scenarios. The originality lies in the involvement of local and regional stakeholders at each step of the study, with the aim to build a conceptual scheme, define a reference situation, and raise comments regarding the simulation results under future climatic conditions. Our study lead to the development of a simulation model that takes into account stakeholder’s concerns. We highlight the increased vulnerability of high-yield winegrowing systems compared to premium quality wine systems. However, uncertainties remain concerning the occurrence of extreme events and the effect of high temperatures. The discussions on adaptations integrate these results, while going beyond the use of the model. Our study illustrates the interest of bringing modellers and stakeholders together to deal with climate change issues, even if this remains challenging
