Etude expérimentale du sillage d'un barreau cylindrique se développant dans une couche de mélange plane turbulente

Abstract : In this study, we analysed the wake of a circular cylinder embedded in a plane mixing layer. Investigations were carried out involving miniature four hot wire probes. The Reynolds number was in the range 6000-9000. Through the analysis of the mean velocities and pressure on the cylinder, a singular behaviour of the wake was observed in that highly tridimensional complex flow. In the vortex formation zone, the pressure and drag coefficients were highly modified under the influence of the mixing layer. A secondary flow, taking place from the low to the high velocity side of the mixing layer, was evidenced. Spectral analysis gave complementary informations on the spacial organization of the flow, in the vortex formation zone and further downstream in the wake. The wake was splitted into two cells separated by the mixing layer, each one being characterized by a specific Strouhal number. The mixing layer was found to interact mainly with the high velocity side of the wake. Confirmations of that organization of the flow downstream of the cylinder were drawn from the study of the Reynolds stresses.
