Applying a multiscale approach to explain biofilm formation

Abstract : In this paper, we study the structure of a biofilm using homogenization techniques, which have been developed to characterize heterogeneous materials in physics. The properties of the biofilm depend therefore on the considered scale where they are calculated. Homogenization techniques are then applied on biofilm in order to determine emergent properties. We especially focus on the nutrient access properties and the link with biofilm structure.
