Predictive control of an irrigation channel
Commande prédictive d'un canal d'irrigation
Résumé
The problem of the delay encountered in the water transport in irrigation channels makes the control of these systems very difficult. So, in this paper we propose a control method which allows us to compensate the time delay. Based on predicting the output over a large time horizon, this method is called the Generalized Predictive Control. First, we expose the basic principles of this control algorithm. Then we are interested in the application of this method to a simple-reach canal and we extend it to the case of two reachs separated by a cross-gate. The objective is to regulate the downstream discharge of the canal by controlling both the upstream discharge and the gate opening.
Le problème des temps de retard rencontrés dans le transport d'eau dans les canaux d'irrigation rend la commande de ces systèmes très difficile. Dans cet article, nous proposons une méthode de commande qui nous permet de compenser ces temps de retard. Cette méthode, appelée Commande Prédictive Généralisée, est basée sur une prédiction des sorties sur un horizon suffisamment long. Dans un premier temps, nous présentons les principes de base de cet algorithme de commande. Puis, nous nous intéressons à l'application de cette méthode à un simple bief de canal. Puis nous l'étendons au cas de 2 biefs séparés par une vanne de régulation. L'objectif est de contrôler la côte à l'aval du premier bief et le débit à l'aval du canal, en jouant sur le débit amont et sur l'ouverture de la vanne.
