Lagoon eutrophication assessment for rehabilitation purposes : nitrogen and phosphorus loadings in different compartments

Abstract : Coastal lagoons have been submitted to the eutrophication phenomenon because of the increase of discharges from their watersheds. Alga multiplication is more and more important and their decay is often the cause of anoxic crisis and massive deaths. Nitrogen and phosphorus are key-elements of the eutrophication process. In these three lagoon-watershed systems in the Languedoc region, the nitrogen and phosphorus stocks of different compartments have been estimated.
