Abstract
In December 1999, a violent storm in France resulted in the escape of 27 tonnes of juvenile and adult Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii, into the Gironde estuary. This area is used by Acipenser sturio juveniles of the last European population of native sturgeon, and which may be threatened by the escaped A. baerii.
