Radar and optical remote sensing to infer evapotranspiration and soil moisture

We present two studies where remotely-sensed data have been used in hydrological models. The first study has been performed within the framework of the HAPEX-MOBILHY experiment. Optical and thermal infrared data were used to infer land use, the annual cycle of the vegetation and soil moisture storage in the root zone for incorporation in a distributed hydrological model. The second study is still in progress and deals with the synergistic use of radar, optical and thermal infrared data for hydrological modelling of small agricultural watersheds in Brittany (France). The first results are presented.
