Regional and inter-scales flow regimes variability analysis to define environmental flow patterns

Analyse de la variabilité des régimes d`écoulement régionaux et d`inter-échelle pour définir des enveloppes d`écoulement environnementaux

Pascal Breil

Résumé

In the aim to manage the water resource as an ecological resource, a lot of hydrologic indicesare proposed to group streams into flow variability categories. However few works have pay attention to thescale effect of basin size on the ecohydrological indices. Using the predictability measure of the informationtheory, flow variability is analysed along the spatial scale for natural and disturbed flow regimes. Among 127flow variability indices coming from the literature, 25 are predictable. In the regional hydrometric context ofthis study, mainly the timing of predictable flow conditions seems to be sensitive to flow management.
