Traitement par compostage des déchets organiques

Abstract : Composting processes allow treatment of many organic wastes and fit well to technical and economic contexts ruling waste management in industry or municipalities. Therefore, composting should also develop in agro-food industry. The chapter deals with theoretical concepts, technical developments and regulation aspects. Biological processes and thermal and mass transfers handling composting treatments are described and the influence of temperature, moisture, aeration is detailed. The main models used to simulate composting processes are discussed. Composts quality and particularly stability indicators are summarized. From a technical point of view, treatments applied before (grinding, bulking agent addition) or after composting (inert extraction, sieving) are defined and some examples of composting processes are given. The last part is devoted to the regulation applied to control composting plants activity and composts utilization and trading.
