Determination of estrogens in environmental samples using Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) coupled with Liquid Chromatography / tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)
Résumé
The prevalence of low concentrations (nanogram/liter) of steroid hormones in the environment is an area of growing concern because they are endocrine disrupting chemicals. In this poster, we describe a validated analytical method for the determination of five hormones (l7Bestradiol, estrone, estriol, 17aethynylestradiol) in liquid (river and wastewater) and solid samples (sludge). Solid matrices were extracted by Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE), concentrated and purified by two solid phase extraction steps (Cl8 followed by Florisil). Liquid matrices were extracted and concentrated on Oasis HLB and purified on Florisil. The extraction and purification methods were optimized and will be discussed in detail. Samples were quantified with liquid chromatography coupled with a triple quadripole mass spectrometer. The matrix effects were measured and will be presented. All compounds had a limit of quantification in the range of 1 ng/1 in water and 1 ng/g in sludge samples. The performance of the method was evaluated and resulted in good recovery efficiencies, linearity and repeatability. Applications of the method to surface water and wastewater will be presented.
