Indicators to monitor changes and conservation in Natura 2000 sites : a focus on drivers, pressures and states

Résumé

In 2004, the european community adopted a framework, within which indicators could be identified to facilate the assessment of progress towards the 2010 target for biodiversity and communication of this evaluation (EEA-ECNC 2004). The paper focus on the discussion of the results obtained from analysing historic Land Cover Changes (LCC) in relation to patterns and processes for selected Natura 2000 sites. We quantified pressures on biodiversity associated with land cover changes within the framework of DPSIR (Driving forces, Pressures, States, Impacts and Responses model). In this way, in order to understand the driving forces and patterns behind the observed changes, we look at the consequences of the observed LCC on biodiversity for selected transects across Europe.
