Résumé

In the two past decades, Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) has been developed, tested and improved so that it can now be considered a mature method appropriate for the non-intrusive measurement of free-surface velocity field and discharge in open-channel flows. The conventional method is now stabilized and consists of the four following main steps: 1) recording of image sequences with visible Ground Reference Points (GRP), 2) orthorectification of the oblique images, 3) computation of surface flow velocities using cross-correlation of visible patterns, 4) post-processing of velocity results, including the computation of discharge through a given cross-section. In order to disseminate the LSPIV method to the widest audience, and to enhance feedback and draw new perspectives for research, EDF and Irstea decided to develop and freely dis- tribute the FUDAA-LSPIV software implemented by DeltaCAD. Two application examples of FUDAA-LSPIV to river engineering studies, both in the laboratory and in the field, are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and versatility of the tool. Several important development perspectives are already on the table, including the implementation of other image velocimetry techniques.
