Optimisation du réseau national de suivi pérenne in situ de la température des plans d'eau : apport de la modélisation et des données satellitaires

Abstract : The objectives of the use of modelling and satellite data for the optimization of the national network of permanent monitoring of the temperature of water bodies are 1) understand at the national scale the epilimnion and hypolimnion water temperatures for WFD lakes and their recent evolutions, and 2) identify lakes with unstable thermodynamic behavior which could be significantly modified in the context of future climate change. In this report, the potential use of satellite data as a proxy for the temperature of the epilimnion was analyzed as well as the performance of three simulation models of the temperature of the water in French waters. The models used are i) FLake model (Mironov, 2008), ii) the model of Toffolon et al. (2014), and iii) a modification proposed herein of the model of Ottosson et Abrahamsson (1998). On the one hand, satellite data are used to obtain a basic characterization of the average annual thermal cycle of French water bodies and its relationship with morphometry and geography. In addition, satellite data are used with the measured temperature profiles data to calibrate the modified model of Ottosson and to validate the three temperature models. The model which gives the best simulations, the modified Ottosson model, enables us to classify water bodies according to their hydrodynamic behaviour and to study long term epilimnion temperature trends.
