Four new Periga Walker, 1855 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae, Hemileucinae, Hemileucini) from Southeastern and Southern Brazil

Résumé

Four new Periga Walker, 1855 from Southeastern and Southern Brazil are described: Periga caraca sp. n. from Minas Gerais; Periga acuta sp. n. from Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Parana , and Santa Catarina; Periga alticola sp. n. from Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro; and P. pulchra sp.n. from Parana ́, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. These are compared to the similar species, Periga circumstans Walker, 1855 described from Rio de Janeiro, which differs mainly by the habitus, male labial palp color, tarsus color, and male genitalia. Percentage differences in the partial COI mitochondrial gene sequences (DNA barcode) are presented for all species. Holotypes are deposited in Col. Padre Jesus S. Moure, Departamento de Zoologia, Universidade Federal do Parana , Curitiba, Parana , Brazil.
